The History of Wireless Networking

The history of wireless networks and of wireless networking goes hand in hand. Without the discovery of technology such as the radio, wireless technology would not exist at all today. The history of wireless networking goes as far back as the 1800's with the advent of radio waves. The advent of more technology grew throughout the years and expanded to what we communicated with today.

In 1888, a Hamburg, Germany born physicist named Heinrich Rudolf Herz produced his first radio wave ever. By 1894 this radio wave production became a way of communication. Telegraph wires were used to receive the radio waves in signal form. Herz opened the way for radio, television, and radar with his discovery of electromagnetic waves. An Italian inventor named Marchese Guglielmo Marconi then expanded the radius of radio wave sending to two miles, becoming the "father of the radio." By 1899, this form of telecommunication could travel pretty far for its time. Marconi could send a signal 9 miles across the Bristol Channel. He eventually expanded the radius to 31 miles across the English Channel to France. By 1901 the communication area became immense. Marconi could send signals across the entire Atlantic Ocean.

World War II became a big stepping stone for the radio wave. The United States was the first party to use radio waves for data transmission during the war. This use of radio waves could have quite possibly won the war for the Americans. The use of radio wave data communication lead to a lot of speculation to whether the radio signals could be expanded into something bigger than it currently was. In 1971, a group of researchers under the lead of Norman Abramson, at the University of Hawaii, created the first "packet-switched" radio communications network entitled "Alohanet." Alohanet was the first wireless local area network, otherwise known as a WLAN. The first WLAN was not much, but it was a large discovery. The Alohanet WLAN was comprised of seven computers that communicated to each other. In 1972, Alohanet connected with the WLAN system Arpanet on the mainland. This length of connect was ground breaking in telecommunications between computers.

The History of Wireless Networking

The first types of WLAN technology used an interface in which became over crowded for communication. Small appliances and industrial machinery caused interference so the technology had to be updated. The second type of WLAN technology to be released ended up being four times faster than its predecessor at 2Mbps per second. We use the third format of WLAN today, though our current WLAN system runs at the same speed as the second system released.

In 1990, the 802.11 Working Group was established to work towards a WLAN standard for all computers to communicate from. In 1997, IEEE 802.11 was accepted as the standard data communication format for wireless local area networks. The technology continues to grow today. Governments and large corporations are constantly looking out for the latest and fastest standard to work from.

The expansion of wireless networking will likely continue for decades to come.

Top 10 Jobs For Ex Felons

Getting a job with a felony on your record can be very difficult, as you probably already know. Jobs for felons are difficult to get, and most companies wont hire a felon. The ones that do generally don't pay very well. I have compiled a list of the top 10 jobs for felons. Helpful tip: if your felony is over 7 years old, most states dont allow background checks to go back that far. If your state has this law, you can answer 'no' on an application.

Top 10 List

#10 Job - UPS Delivery Driver

Top 10 Jobs For Ex Felons

UPS has been known to hire felons. They have moderate salaries and is a stable job to have.

#9 Job - Join the army

The army accepts people with criminal backgrounds, depending on the crime. Contact a recruiter to see if you qualify to join.

#8 Job - Truck driver

Many trucking companies are willing to hire felons. Most likely you will need to obtain a trucking license.

#7 Job - Start your own business

You can start your own business. One idea is to go to school to be a locksmith, and start your own company. Also consider getting a barber license.

#6 Job - Telephone Customer Service

Many companies are willing to hire felons for over the phone customer service, because you aren't dealing with the people in person.

#5 Job - Temp Agency

Temp agencies can occasionally find good work for you. Many times it will be day labor, so be in good physical shape.

#4 Job - Family business

See if you can work in a family or friend's business. They will be happy to hire you if you are willing to work hard. They will probably be glad to help you get back on your feet.

#3 Job - Independent Contractor

Many people will still use your services as long as you get the job done. If you work hard, it doesn't matter that you have a felony on your record.

#2 Job - Privately owned small businesses

Some chain businesses have rules against accepting felons. Small business owners are more likely to accept you. They will take more of a 'risk' in hiring employees, and you can be more personal with the business owner.

---> #1 Recommended Job - Online GPT Services

This is the best job for a felon, because it requires no screenings whether it be background checks, drug tests, etc. Everyone is accepted, and you work on your own time and you can work as much or as little as you want. Online 'GPT' or "Get-Paid-To" services offer a great way to make a few hundred dollars a month without spending a lot of time working. There are many GPT services available, some better then others. My experience with GPT services has been a great one, and I recommend this as the best job in my list of Top 10 Jobs for Felons.

Wireless Network Components - Basics of Any Wireless Network

Client Software and Adapter

Any client computer, laptop or wireless device with a compatible wireless client adapter allows connectivity with an access point. The client adapter is a radio transmitter with firmware that supports any of 802.11a/b/g signaling. That is needed before the device can associate and authenticate with the access point. Some access points have a no client mode that doesn't allow any association from clients extending network distance. Client wireless software included with the adapter must be implemented with specific Windows platforms. The client adapter will be integrated with the laptop, PCMCIA slot or desktop PCI bus slot. They will support specific wireless standards, antenna characteristics, WiFi certification, WDS, network range and security. The wireless manufacturer software must be implemented for all available features. The following is a list of some client adapter configured settings.

Access Point (AP)

Wireless Network Components - Basics of Any Wireless Network

As the name suggests an AP (access point) allows connectivity between the wireless client or wireless device and the wired network. The AP takes wireless data packets from a client and translates them to standard Ethernet data frames before transmitting across the wired network. Standard category 5 twisted pair cabling will connect the AP point Ethernet port with a catalyst switch Ethernet port. The maximum distance between access point and network switch is 100 meters standard with Ethernet design.

WLAN Controllers

Wireless designs with hundreds of root APs on an enterprise network will sometimes deploy wireless LAN controllers. The design specifies lightweight APs connecting to a network switch. The 4404 WLAN controller device acts as a hub connecting 4 network switches supporting 100 access points. Cisco wireless control system (WCS) wireless network management software is sometimes deployed with WLAN controller design for planning, configuring and optimizing the network.

Power Injector

Cisco access points have a variety of power options such as AC adapters, power over Ethernet and power injectors. The placement of APs is such that in some situations an AC power outlet isn't available. Should your Ethernet switch not support power over Ethernet, an option such as power injectors extends the distance from an AC outlet. Distances of 1.24 miles are available with a fiber optic media converter.

Power over Ethernet

Cisco access points can be deployed with power over Ethernet (PoE) should the network switch modules support that feature. The distance of 300 feet is the same with Cisco prestandard and 802.3af. The Cisco prestandard use Cat 5 cabling pins 1, 2, 3, 6 for powering devices while 802.3af uses 1, 2, 3, 6 with 10/100/1000BaseT signaling and 4, 5, 7, 8 with 10/100BaseT. Select a network switch module with the power over Ethernet standard your AP has implemented and has a power wattage rating per port for your specific devices. The network switch power supply should be upgraded to support additional power draw from multiple devices. Deploying power over Ethernet will decrease implementation costs with deployment of IPT, wireless and Gigabit. See network switch documents at Cisco web site for information on what network switching modules support PoE and wattage ratings. 802.3af defines powered device class 2 at 3.84W - 6.49W and class 3 at 6.49W - 12.95W.

Power Patch Panel

Cisco inline power patch panels can be deployed where Ethernet switches don't support power over Ethernet and power injectors aren't an option. The patch panel does no switching. It powers the devices through a Cat 5 cable that is a maximum 300 feet at a specific rated wattage per port. The patch panel connects the access point to the wired switch with a patch cable.

Computer Networking Devices

Building your home network and networking devices together may seem intimidating at first. It should not be as scary as it may seem. Actually as long as you know a little bit about networking, and how different systems work, you could have your computer networking devices speaking to one another directly.

There are two different types of networks you can create. Are you looking for a wireless network, or a hard wired network? What are the differences? As you might have guessed, the hardwired network is when there are visible wires going from computer networking devices to networking devices. It is not a bad setup, and sometimes people find their Internet connection is a lot faster. The downside to it is you do not' have the freedom to move your networking devices when the time comes that you want to change their position. You can change things around, but if the wires do not reach, or the wires show, it could become a mess quickly.

A wireless network is a lot easier to set up today. Most all network devices can be found in both wired, and wireless. A wireless device might cost a little more money, but you are getting the flexibility of moving your computer networking devices anywhere within the home. The advantage of being able to do that is enough for most people to pay the extra money for each device.

Computer Networking Devices

No matter what type of network you choose you will need a router. The router is what will determine the signal from your Internet service provider and assess the addresses that are in the packets and route them appropriately. Routers today often work exceptionally similar to a switch and hub. A switch is used to assess the addresses in the DLL and route them and forward them to the different places on the LAN. Now the routers do that for you too. A hub is remarkably similar to a switch. Hubs are perfect for a wired network in which you need more ports to plug your components into.

All networking devices will go directly into the router, hub, or switch. You can buy printers, scanners, servers, extra hard drive space, etc. There are so many different networking components you can purchase to put on your home network. You will always want to make sure that your signal is strong enough to support your network. If it is not strong enough, you can purchase repeaters which will throw your signal and make your network faster and stronger. This is extremely similar to a signal amplifier also.

There are so many different ways to create your home network. If you start with a list of what you will need your network to consist of, you can then plan on how many ports you will need on your router, hub, or switch. This is the first phase of properly having your computer networking devices interact properly with one another.

The next step is trial and error. You will need to create your network and see that the speed of the network is OK for what you want. If it is slow you will need to strategically place devices that throw your signal further.

Are you out of work? Have you reached the point where you are thinking, 'I need a job fast'? Discover how to get a job as soon as possible..

The unemployment rate in the US is still over 8%. And no one really knows how long it will be before things turn around. With these sobering statistics in mind, what is a person to do if they've lost their job in this tough economy. How do you stand above the crowd and get a job, ANY JOB, in this ugly economic environment?

I Need a Job Fast - Get a Job in 17 Days - Guaranteed!

If you've lost your job, and are beside yourself, thinking, 'I need a job fast,' what are the best strategies to find another job in a reasonable amount of time? Begin your job quest by writing a quality application. To get help you in composing a high quality application, read through examples of cover letters and applications written by others. You will easily learn what to do, and more importantly, what not to do. It is very important to master this step before sending your application and cover letter to prospective employers.

Before you get overly excited and try to cram all your highest achievements into your cover letter, it is best to determine what you want the employer to know about you. Too much information will bore the reader, while too little, or irrelevant information is a quick way to get your packet trashed. You want to make your information stand out above the rest. It is best to keep your cover letter at one page. It is best to keep it short and to the point.

Remember that the employer will hire you for one reason only. That reason is to do a job for the company and fulfill the company's needs, not the other way around. With this being said, do not discuss why you need the job, how desperate you are, or how the job would help resolve your financial problems.

Be objective, formal, and sincere. Keep the concepts contained in your cover letter clear, concise, and to the point. Make sure your letter is grammatically correct and free of punctuation and spelling errors. If necessary, ask a friend to read it after running it through your spelling checker. Using these techniques, you will be saying, 'I got a job,' instead of 'I need a job fast.'

The Top 5 Ways To Market A Medical Billing Company

Medical billing services are becoming more and more popular because these services save doctors a substantial amount of the time filling out forms, dealing with insurance companies and chasing payments. By outsourcing medical billing, doctors can see far more patients and generate more income for their medical practice.

Because of the growing popularity of medical billing services, many new medical billing businesses are opening their doors and creating a lot of competition. That is the bad news. The good news is that most medical billing services handle their marketing very poorly. This opens up a huge opportunity to those who are good at marketing, or at least willing to learn how to become good at marketing. This article will teach you step-by-step how to market your medical billing service to doctors and surpass your competition.

1. Create a mailing list of doctors in your area and send out a friendly sales letter or postcard to them every month. You sales letter should explain how your company can help the doctor save time and money while also increasing their profits. Your job is to make the doctor's life easier.

The Top 5 Ways To Market A Medical Billing Company

When you send direct mail to the doctors on your mailing list, it is important that you do everything you can to make your direct mail package look interesting so it gets opened. The best way to do that is to make your envelope lumpy by placing a free gift of some sort in the envelope such as a pen, post-it notes, or other type of inexpensive item. A second technique to get your envelope opened and your letter read is to make your letter look like a personal letter, not like junk mail. The way to do that is to not include your company name on the envelope and to handwrite the name of the doctor and the doctor's mailing address on the envelope. You want the letter to look like it came from either a patient or a friend of the doctor-not like it came from a business trying to sell something.

2. It is important that you follow up with a phone call no more than a week after your mailing is sent so it is still fresh in their minds. If you wait longer than a week, then the doctor may not remember who you are. It is important that you identify yourself and that you are following up on the literature that you sent. Office personnel and doctors will respond a little less harsh if they do know the purpose of your call.

3. Cold calling doctor's offices is another marketing technique that is effective, however it may take multiple calls to be able to speak to the person who makes the decisions. In some instance, it becomes bothersome to the person and they are more likely to not return your phone call.

4. Visiting the doctor's office and leaving your business card and literature at the front desk is also a very good marketing technique, especially if you have a small budget for advertising. The person who makes the decision will see who you are and you have a better chance of speaking to him or her if you are right there.

5. Networking is one of the most important ways that you can market your medical billing company. Referrals will be a big part of marketing your business and if you are just starting out, getting one client can lead to many more through referrals. Once you have established yourself with your client and proven that you are a capable of handling the work, you can ask the doctor to refer their associates to you.

Because of the competition in the medical billing field, you want to make sure that the services you offer are services that you can provide. This is important because you will be building your reputation on what you say you can do, and if you fail, your reputation will suffer.

Marketing your medical billing company is really quite simple. When you have a good business plan with skills that are needed, marketing it should be easy. It may be time consuming in the beginning, but once you get your first client, you will realize just how simple it really is.

Networking - How Effective is Your Follow-Up System?

Attending networking events is only the first step of the process of networking. It is important to attend events not to give your sale pitch to everybody you meet but to get exposure, to meet people, so you get to know them while they get to know you. You learn more about them and try to help them, so right on the spot you can show a sample of your expertise giving them some advice, instead of trying to sell them anything.

Doing so you attend various event a week and collected numbers of business cards. Now what do you do with those cards? How do you follow-up with people? Do you even follow-up with your contacts? Don't think that sending an email the next day is consider follow-up, because if you just stop there nothing will happen. Don't expect people to pick up the phone and call you just because you spoke for 5 minutes at the event and that you have a great product, because you will be very disappointed.

If you find that you forget to follow up, your 'fears' probably fall into one of these categories:

Networking - How Effective is Your Follow-Up System?

*Fear of rejection.
*Lack of confidence in themselves and or their products.
*Fear of competition.
*Expect people to call if they are interested.
*Don't know what to say.
*Don't know when to follow-up and how often.
*Don't even know what a follow-up system is.

Maybe you relate to one or more of those and the reason why you never follow-up with your contacts and permanently struggle to get new clients is hidden in those fears.

Think about this: Imagine you hiring a salesperson to sell your products. She attends 4 events a week, gets hundred of business cards a week, you think great she will get lots of clients in no time. Then your salesperson comes back to the office, sits at her deck and waits, waits, waits and waits. After a while you may ask "What are you waiting for?" and she answers "Well I met lots of people last week, so now I wait for them to call, to close the deal and make a sale." Would you pay this person to spend hours at the office waiting for the phone to ring. I don't think so. You will ask her to do her job as a salesperson and go after clients.

Now imagine that you are this salesperson for your own business, if you don't follow-up, and don't take action to communicate with people to close the deal, you are doing the exact same thing. You are wasting money on the table.

Again, making contact with a new people at networking events is just the first step. It is what you do to follow-up that will lead to make a sale, get more clients and success for your business. Having an effective follow-up system in place will help you grow your business without wondering what is the next step to connect with people.
